new york city, real life, awesome and stuff
new york city is the subject of songs, movies, and magazines, but you can’t really know what it’s like until you’re in the heart of it. there’s never an absence of drama in these streets, but you’ve got to keep on going and suck it up, after all, you’re grown up now. there’s five boroughs, and the people here are as diverse as the neighborhoods from which they hail. regardless, the thousands of people you’ll see in this city may seem to blur together into a mess of the same, we’re all too busy here to notice any different, but take a closer look and you’ll see…in the end they’re all just stories, from the upper east side wives with their thousand dollar hérmes scarves to the hipsters of williamsburg with their two dollar “ironic” glasses that have the lenses popped out because they don’t need them anyway. they’re distinctive stories, full of tears and smiles, lies and deceit, affairs and scandals, love and hate, the only question is, what story will you write in this humdrum town?
this humdrum town is set in new york city during june 2011. we have both freestyle and traditional apps, as well as a rather low minimum word count of 400. the site encompasses all five boroughs of the city. also, our first event is set to be a citywide blackout during one of the hottest days of summer…so i sincerely hope no one’s afraid of the dark.
