Quinn hadn’t really had a busy week; in fact it was probably the most boring week of her life. Most of the week she’d spent in her garden sunbathing, because it’d actually been quite nice whether which was quite good for Ohio. So, she’d decided to make the most of it. Though, her mother had been constantly begging her to leave the house. Go out with some friends or something, but Q had argued that she didn’t want to see anyone. It wasn’t completely true, but it was close enough. The blonde just felt like she needed a summer alone. That way she could spend some time focusing on herself, get her life in order before she started the whole “I’m cool” charade back at school. Her mother just kept arguing with her though, she really wanted her daughter to have some time with other people and not just be isolated from everyone. It wasn’t long until she found a way to make Quinn go outside, it might’ve annoyed the hell out of the blonde but it got her out of the house.
Her mother had told her that she needed to go get her own groceries, because she was old enough to go shopping for essentials herself now. That irritated her quite a lot; after all her mom had never mentioned anything about “buying her own groceries” before and suddenly she needed to go get her own food? Though, Q didn’t argue. After all, it was her mother and she couldn’t argue with her own mom. So, she’d waited a few days before she took the money Judy had left her and grabbed her cardigan. It was still nice weather outside, but there was a slight cool breeze blowing. Quinn had decided to walk instead of taking the car; because she wanted to be on her feet not driving the convertible she’d been bought at the beginning of the summer.
As she waltzed down the streets on her way to the mall, she saw a few slightly familiar faces but they didn’t seem to see her. It was like everybody had somewhere to go, something to do or someone to see. The situation kind of reminded her of back when the New Directions were in New York, the people never stopped there either. She sort of laughed a little to herself at the comparison, but she had to agree that it was true. Quinn made one quick stop on the way to the mall, at the star bucks to get a ‘Decaf House Blend’ coffee. After all, she was really thirsty but she hated caffeine. It made her a bit too hyper and she’d be running around everywhere, like she was on drugs or something. So, she’d decided that was probably not the best idea. As she left the small coffee shop, she thought she heard someone call her name. That’s why she looked behind her as she stepped onto the path. It turned out she’d just been imagining it, but as she turned back around someone walked straight into her. The fresh coffee crashed to the ground, splattering dark coffee all over; including on her brand new white and blue dress, which annoyed her. Though, she wasn’t bothered about that. She was more concerned – and embarrassed – about the guy she’d just walked into. “I...I’m so sorry.” Quinn muttered, her cheeks going a rosy pink color.

Sam had spent most of his summer working in the pizza parlor. He was making money because he knew he needed to help parents make some money. Sam wished he had more time for friends, but he knew the situation he was in he barely had time for them. His family came first. Plus, Sam never spoke to his friends other than Mercedes and Quinn, but that was very rare since his work had been taking over his life. When Sam was at work, his boss his approached him telling him he needed to take a break since he had been there, for a while taking no personal day. Sam protested, but his boss wouldn't cave. On Friday Sam would be taking his first day off.
Sam awoke to an empty motel room. He knew his parents were off job hunting, while his brother and sister were at day camp. Sam didn't understand how this was possible since they were broke, and working from pay check to pay check. But he wasn't going to question his parents and were they had the money from. Sam climbed out of bed and walked into the kitchenette. He made himself a bowl of cereal. He ate it in silence and then placed his dish in the sink for his mom to wash later. Sam was sweating his room was really hot and he knew that the AC in the room broke. Sam decided to take a quick shower. Once he got out of the shower, he wrapped a towel around his waist and went into his bedroom. He put on a plaid button down shirt, he kept it open and put on a undershirt. He then put on a pair of shoes. He thought about going into town to pick up his money from the pizza place. He opened the door and walked out of the motel room.
The air in Lima was cool. It was nicer outside then in his motel room. The summer air was making Sam's pale skin turn to a golden brown. You'd think someone who was as pale as the blonde would burn instantly but he was the exact opposite. It was because of all the walking Sam had to do. With no transportation it made Sam have to walk everywhere. Once Sam got into town he walked to the pizza parlor. His boss was kicking Sam out. But once he found out Sam was picking up his money his boss gave it to him instantly. Sam decided he would treat himself to some coffee from the coffee shop down the street. Sam walked down the street and entered the coffee shop. Sam wasn't paying any attention and bumped into someone. He felt horrible since it got all over her dress. Sam helped the blonde up. He noticed it was Quinn. His heartbeat increased dramatically. "It's my fault Quinn. I should have watched where I was going." Sam said feeling so sorry he walked into her.

Quinn was glad that the boy had helped her up, if he hadn’t she would’ve probably have struggled. The blonde didn’t realize that it was actually Sam she’d walked into, until he spoke. “It's my fault Quinn. I should have watched where I was going." He’d said, though she wasn’t paying that much attention. Her heart must’ve skipped a beat at the sound of his voice and it took her a minute or two to bring herself back together. When she did, she smiled before she replied. “It’s okay; it’s not even your fault if you ask me.” She muttered, smiling while the pinky color of her cheeks got a little pinker. “I should’ve been looking where I was going, too.” Q replied, her heart was beating quite quickly and rosiness didn’t disappear from her cheeks. She didn’t know whether it was because she was stood in a coffee stained dress and everyone who passed gave her a funny look or because she was around Sam. Though, no matter how hard she tried to think it was option one, she knew that it was because of Sam’s presence.
The blonde knew she’d be lying to herself if she said she didn’t have any feelings for the other blonde, but at the same time she didn’t want to admit her feelings because she was scared of the pain it might cause her. Quinn had regretted cheating on him; it was one of her worst mistakes ever and she knew it. Though, she was scared to admit her feelings, even to herself. If she did, she knew that she’d never move on and she didn’t want that because she knew that Sam probably wouldn’t forgive her for what she’d done. She definitely wouldn’t if she was him, but Quinn did want to apologize to him for it...at least that way he’d know she was sorry. The only problem was she didn’t know how to apologize; after all she’d never been good with words and would probably make the situation even worse if she tried to fix it. So, she’d been stuck in this whirlpool of guilt that never disappeared, but she’d now learnt how to push it aside a little and act like it wasn’t even there.
Though, in his presence...now, it was stronger than it had been before. Quinn tried to act like it wasn’t there, but she couldn’t push it to the side completely. She hoped it was enough, otherwise she would seriously end up embarrassing herself right now and that wouldn’t help the situation at all. “Ermm...I’m probably gonna go buy another coffee, you coming?” She asked, unsure of what else to say. The blonde didn’t want to sound unintelligent or stupid in anyway but she didn’t want to make it any more awkward then it already was and people on TV always asked the other person if they wanted to go for coffee, right? Okay, so maybe it wasn’t the best idea stealing lines from television shows but it was better than anything she’d come up with on her own. So, it’d have to do. After all, if he said yes then maybe they’d talk about something that would take her mind off of the feeling in her heart. That’d make the situation less awkward for her and make it seem like a more friendly chat from her point of view which was definitely a good thing...she thought.

Although Sam wasn't at fault when he bumped into Quinn, he still felt like it was. A sigh escaped from his lips, and then smiled at the girl he helped get off the floor. Even with the coffee stained on her dress she still looked hot. Sam admired Quinn's beauty, not paying attention to a word she said. Sam snapped out of it, "What?" Sam asked hoping Quinn would repeat herself. After he said that his face turned a bright shade of red. He felt embarrassed he even asked the girl to repeat herself. Sam always got nervous around Quinn.
Sam would never admit to Quinn he still liked her. After they dated for a couple of months, and even after Sam giving Quinn a promise ring. Sam finding out the truth on how she cheated on him with Finn. Sam's feelings never changed. He didn't want to admit to these feelings because he didn't want to be heart broken once again, over the queen bee of McKinley. He knew things were a bit awkward since the last time they spoke was over the situation Sam had with living in the motel, causing Finn to think Quinn was cheating on him. Sam was just glad, because of the situation of him living in a motel gave him the courage to go talk to Quinn once again.
Sam liked the idea of hanging out with Quinn some more, it wasn't like he should be rushing back to his motel room. He thought about it and then nodded. "Yeah getting more coffee would be nice." Sam said as he flashed her a smile. "I wish I could buy you coffee, but I'm not so sure how my parents are going to react when I use some money to buy myself a coffee." Sam told her as he started walking back to the line for coffee. Sam glanced over at Quinn. "You look beautiful," Sam blurted out.

Quinn felt so embarrassed as she looked down at her coffee stained dress, not daring to look the other blonde in the eye. She couldn’t deny that she still had feelings for him, because the truth was she always had. He’d always been on her mind, even while she was dating Finn and everything. She regretted cheating on him, she’d just got a little too caught up in the moment and made a stupid mistake but it was one she could never take back. So, she had to deal with the consequences because she would never admit that she still had feelings for him. The blonde was scared of the pain that would come with telling him, she didn’t want to feel that. That’s why she tried to ignore the feelings she had for him, but she couldn’t ignore them completely.
Quinn had never taken off the promise ring Sam had bought her, because it made her smile every time she thought about it or looked at it. It made her think of the good times they had together, rather than the bad times when their relationship neared the end. So, she didn’t even realize she had it on right now. It was sort of like a part of her, but she’d worn it so often that she could hardly feel it on her finger right now. Plus, she was more focused on her coffee stained dress and Sam. She had to admit that she’d missed their conversations and spending time with him, because they used to be so carefree and happy. It was like she was a kid again when she was around him and she liked that about him, it was what had made her like him in the first place.
The blonde was thinking about how they used to have so much fun together, when Sam’s voice brought her back to the real world. "Yeah getting more coffee would be nice." He said, that kind of made Quinn smile. It’d be nice to hang out with him again, make things a little less awkward between them. "I wish I could buy you coffee, but I'm not so sure how my parents are going to react when I use some money to buy myself a coffee." He then continued, as they started walking to the line. “Don’t worry about it” She smiled, because she honestly and earnestly felt sorry for Sam and his family’s current economic situation. She was lucky enough never to have been in that situation and she couldn’t imagine how bad it must be for them. That’s why she’d helped Sam with babysitting his brother and sister last year, because she wanted to help him. So, she was glad that she could at least help him in some way. Then, as they finally reached the back of the queue Sam spoke again and what he said made her heart falter. "You look beautiful" He’d said, which made her blush a rosy pink color and she could only manage to choke out some small words. “T..Thanks.” She said, the blush getting a little brighter as she looked down at her coffee stained dress.

Sam wanted all the awkward tension gone between the two. Sam had a heart and knew he could forgive Quinn to some extent. His extent went to only being friends. Sam wanted to believe he could trust the blonde, but it was hard. What made being even harder for Sam was he still had feelings for Quinn. He wanted these feelings to leave, but Sam loved her. He knew he rushed saying the "L" word to her but he believed Quinn was the one true girl for him. Sam let out a soft sigh, and ran his fingers through his hair.
Sam glanced down to the girls hand noticing the promise ring he had given to her. Sam smiled as he noticed that the blonde had the promise ring on her finger. It made him feel a bit confused, did it mean she still liked him. This made things hard on Sam. Sam was split right down the middle. Part of Sam wanted to kiss Quinn as if they were dating. The other part wanted to tell him he liked Mercedes, and not Quinn. His internal battle of which girl he liked him made him huff in frustration. He just wanted to enjoy his time he was going to spend with Quinn.
Sam nodded his head when she said it was alright. Sam felt as if he needed to treat Quinn to something. He felt it was the right thing, to do. Sam flashed Quinn a smile when she thanked him. They fell silent for a moment. Only because Sam wasn't exactly sure what to say. The only thing running threw Sam's mind was the old times they had together. Sam wanted to return back to those days. The cashier called out next and Sam went ordering a coffee. He paid a couple of bucks to the cashier and then waited off to the side for his order. That's when an idea popped into the blondes head. "Hey Q, you want to hang out?" Sam asked knowing they were already hanging out but he wasn't sure if Quinn had plans or anything else once they got there coffee.

Quinn couldn’t help thinking back to last year, when everything had been so much easier. She’d been hesitant with him in the beginning, thinking back to it made her wish that maybe she should’ve left it a little longer before saying she loved him. Though, she had to admit that at the time he had meant so much to her and she couldn’t help falling for him. He’d been so different from the other guys at McKinley, in a childlike, sweet and endearing way. The blonde had sort-of rushed into it a little at breadsticks, because it had occurred to her that she’d never find a guy like Sam again. That if she left it any longer he’d probably just forget about her and move on. She had loved him, no matter how much she tried to deny it.
As they stood in the queue now, a year later waiting for coffee. She still felt that slight spark between them, even if it wasn’t as bright as it had been before it was still there. She felt like had made a mistake when cheating on him, no doubt about it. Though, she also couldn’t help thinking that maybe it was for the best. She hoped that the spark between them would never fade, because it kept them close even if it did cause the awkwardness when they were around each other. Quinn also hoped that they could be friends again at least; it would be good to have Sam as a friend. She doubted he would trust her as much as before, but being friends would be better than just pretending they had nothing to do with each other. The blonde knew she’d always love him, but maybe being friends was the way to move forward without the tension that she’d caused between them. So, if friends were all they could be now then that was fine with Quinn.
She was pulled out of her thoughts by the sound of Sam’s movement, which brought her back to the real world. The blonde followed shortly after Sam to get her own coffee, after receiving a few puzzled looks from the staff because of her dress they gave her another coffee and she paid. That’s when she heard Sam speak again; she looked up and made her way toward him. "Hey Q, you want to hang out?" He called, just as she reached him again. She smiled politely as she replied, glad that he actually wanted to spend some time with her. Maybe they could move past what had happened last year and just be friends, she hoped they could. That’s when Quinn remembered why she’d come out in the first place, she’d forgotten all about shopping. Though, her mom was out with her friends, so why could Q go out with some of hers? Plus, she could always go shopping some other time. “Sure, I’d love to” She answered, before taking a sip of her fresh coffee.
