Greg stepped on the stage, confident, ready and nervous as all hell could imagine. Still he had to get a spot in the glee choir and with the music in his life, he could do this. He had to think of some of his favorite Broadway performers in his shoes at this age, it brought a small sense of relief.
"Hello, I'm Greg Meyers and I'll be doing 'Someone Like You' from 'Jekyll and Hyde'." He heard someone gasp slightly, seemed like someone else knew the song, and knew that the character Lucy sang it in the show originally.
The curly haired teacher smiled, jotting down a few notes. "Sounds good, stage is all yours."
Greg heard the intro and closed his eyes, letting the music flow through him.
I peer through windows,
Watch life go by,
Dream of tomorrow,
And wonder "why"?
The past is holding me,
Keeping life at bay,
I wander lost in yesterday,
Wanting to fly -
But scared to try.
The passion of the song was uplifting, but the chorus seemed to really have the most going for it.
But if someone like you
Found someone like me,
Then suddenly
Nothing would ever be the same!
My heart would take wing,
And I'd feel so alive -
If someone like you
Found me!
Greg felt it was unfair to just end the song there. He had to keep going. The key change was going to be just after this verse which would be a small challenge, but he knew better than to force it.
So many secrets
I've longed to share!
All I have needed
Is someone there,
To help me see a world
I've never seen before -
A love to open every door,
To set me free,
So I can soar!
He took a deep breath, ready to throw the gusto into the end. Then bring it down gently and softly.
Oh, if someone like you
Found someone like me,
Then suddenly
Nothing would ever be the same!
My heart would take wing,
And I'd feel so alive -
If someone like you
Loved me...
Loved me...
Loved me!...
Once the pianos chord had faded, Greg smile, and sure of himself and his position.
"Thank you." he said before exiting the stage.
