Evelyn was a bit down recently, because her parents didn’t get along as much as they did. She didn’t know why, and her brother wasn’t helping much. He made sure to run away from the family troubles that they seemed to be over. She heard them, arguing often, over silly things. Sometimes, it was so awkward when they were eating a meal, her sitting in the middle, watching two people getting over each other’s nerves as they were arguing on their families’ recipes. She thought that she was having the happy life, you know...the normal kind of life. But apparently, it decided to take an opposite turn and it was one of the reasons of why she was at school at the moment, in the auditorium. She had avoided a scene of argument, it gave her a headache, and she found a quick excuse to move away, far away, from them. She thought that they would be supportive and she apparently left them quite after she left but maybe they would think about why they acted that way and things would return to normal? She sure hoped so; she had enough trouble with school, she didn’t need more at home! She smiled as she was alone, just like the first time she had been there. This room was familiar to her for she had been there for various practices, and hanging out with a very few friends from Vocal Adrenaline. Things had calmed down over the summer between her group and the New Directions; she was pleased by it even though she thought it was mainly because it was summer. Not that she mind; she was simply glad that she had her spot for herself, and that the school was still open for practices of the sort. They were in the top ten national and they would have to make it harder if they wanted to go higher in the ranks. She walked up the stage and spotted the piano. She didn’t go to the instrument yet, remembering her first performance. It was strange how she got enrolled; by singing randomly out there, apparently she was talented enough to perform in the choir. She found herself liking it, even if the way they had to compete against other students was rather...low, she liked it. She just didn’t like the bad reputation she seemed to have because she was a part of this choir. She silently sat at the piano, and pressed on a few random notes. A smile instantly formed onto her lips; she liked to imagine herself being a star and shine some days, but she knew it would never happen; she was too shy. She couldn’t help it! It was how she was and whenever she was in front of others, she seemed to freeze. It was probably one of the reasons of why she was kept in the background, even if she would’ve liked to shine as well, she knew that her shyness wouldn’t allow her to do such an exploit. Maybe this year she would try to do her best and get over her shyness. Soon, inspired like the first day she had been there, she began playing a melody, not a well known one, inspired by Alice in Wonderland, Avrile Lavigne’s single. She was good at reaching high notes. She closed her eyes, memorizing the lyrics as they poured out of her lips, her fingers following her giving the melodies. This, was where she truly belonged. Song: CLICK

Although Jesse had long since graduated from Carmel High School, he still found himself meandering through the halls time and time again. It was summertime, but it wasn’t like anyone actually cared. Even if there were students in the halls, they wouldn’t mind his presence, he was certain of it. Everywhere else in the world, it seemed as though he wasn’t welcomed, and that he had done to himself. He knew it, but he was okay with it. Back at Carmel, this was his own little bubble. The people here seemed to appreciate him, or at least they used to. Of course things would change after he graduated. But as long as he could go down in history as one who helped to put their school on top, he was sure he would be treated with some semblance of respect…these were his halls after all. But he couldn’t come back and visit his alma mater without visiting that one place that was most special to him. The auditorium. It was one of the most magnificent places, in his opinion. It was so open, and so full when there was some sort of performance. There were plenty of instruments lining the backstage, and the piano on stage. He could remember the countless hours he spent on that stage, rehearsing, perfecting, preparing…preparing to destroy. His feet started to move a little quicker as those thoughts flowed through his mind. He was addicted to the stage, to say the least. And there was nowhere else that Jesse would want to be, except for right on stage, singing. Now, he couldn’t do that any longer, so he was able to settle for the second best option and consult the Vocal Adrenaline team this year instead of New Directions. After ND’s loss, they were hopeless, and he was over them. It was good to be home anyways. Jesse, however, was a little startled to hear a noise coming from the auditorium. A voice, echoing through the halls. It was…singing? A smile crossed his lips before he even stepped into the auditorium, he could recognize that voice from a mile away, though he had rarely heard it through the course of his time in VA. As he quietly stepped inside, out of sight, his assumption was proved to be true. He watched as Evelyn sat at the piano, singing her little heart out. She was good, no doubt about that at all. Unfortunately she didn’t have the confidence to stand at the front of the choir during performances and hold those solos. Secretly, Jesse had been rooting for her all along to take the female solos, because he knew that if she could just understand that she was spectacular, then maybe she would come out of her shell and knock the other competition dead. Perhaps Jesse was going to push her a little harder this year, try and help her break that shell… Taking a seat towards the top, he waited until the song was done in it’s entirety. As the last note came to an end, he clapped his hands rather loudly. ”Well done. Now, can you do that with a full auditorium?” He asked as he hopped up onto the stage. There was a guitar leaning against the wall, backstage right and he strode over to grab it, taking a couple of strums. ”Or can you do that again, just with a partner…just like a competition performance? Unless you are content with being a fly on the wall for the rest of your high school career.” Jesse was being a little blunt, but sometimes that was exactly what it took. tagged. evelyn (: ? notes. haii c: ~ credits. carolyn's sweet blasphemy *

Evelyn continued playing the piano and singing along with it. The auditorium was her favourite place of the school for many reasons. She loved it when nobody was around, it was so huge and it was the place she usually went to whenever she wanted to escape from real life and now, it was becoming her real life throughout the time she was spending with Vocal Adrenaline and the friends she was making with the few students that were attending to the club. Sure, a few of them, well many of them weren’t quite friendly and had a competitive side that surpassed sanity but still, they were somewhat of a family (even if she didn’t speak much while they were all reunited). Her fingers pressed onto the white and black notes, her eyes were still closed as Jesse entered into the place, which was why she hadn’t noticed him coming first. She loved singing, she loved music, she loved being on stage, the only thing that was pulling her back and she knew it, was the fact that she was so shy, she didn’t even know how she was doing standing in front of a huge crowd with the choir she was in. There was only one person so far who managed to make it not so bad and it was the person who talked to her, the moment she was done with it. Not expecting a second presence in the auditorium, she obviously startled slightly but soon relaxed and smiled seeing that it was no one but the Jesse St.-James. They didn’t always agree with each other, though when she didn’t her never really spoke her mind but they still managed to get along well together and develop a deep friendship that she wouldn’t want to share with anyone else. He had always been there for her and helped her out with the choir. Deep down, she was happy that he had liked her performance and stood up of her piano to walk up to him and hug him. “Jesse!” She thought for a few moments when he was gone with New Directions that he forgot about them forever...that he forgot about her. She frowned as he finished his sentence knowing quite well what he meant by this. “B-But wouldn’t Sunshine have all the solos like you do?” She knew that she would’ve liked to be in the front line, having a solo for herself for once instead of being in the back like he said but...she wasn’t all so sure about the idea. She didn’t have a deep voice like Sunshine or the charisma that Jesse had. Why would people have an interest for her? She almost couldn’t imagine the reasons of why Jesse was still talking to her. She looked down for a few moments. “I thought you left Vocal Adrenaline for good...” she said fidgeting with her fingers.

Jesse understood the thrill of singing in an open auditorium. It was enthralling, and it was sometimes even breathtaking to hear your voice resonating through the empty room. The bonus was, there was nobody there to judge you. Not like Jesse would ever get judged in a bad way, he was too good for that. Or so he had always assumed, and the compliments of others just proved that to be true. Jesse also understood what it was like to realize that you were, in fact, not alone in the auditorium. He had pulled that on people plenty of times, not that he had actually meant to do it all those times. And he had been walked in on several times himself. But receiving praise after that moment of horror once you realized you were alone...well, that was always nice. A self-esteem booster, or in Jesse's case it was just an ego booster. Evelyn was really good, Jesse wouldn't lie about that. He lied about many things in the past, but when it came to competition, he wouldn't lie if it meant that lie was going to cost them the win. He would only lie to save his team's ass. Besides, Evelyn deserved better than to have Jesse lie to her. He was blunt, rash, and rude with most people...but there was something different when it came to Evelyn. She was like his little sister or something. Well, his siblings were all screwed up because they were jealous of Jesse or something. His parents had clearly favored him growing up, which didn't help his ego much, and his other two siblings were quite jealous. In fact, he didn't see them much. So somebody had to take their place, for Jesse to act all big brother-like, right? Not really, in fact nobody would be expecting anything of the sort from him. But he acted a little different with different people. He smiled as he received a hug after stepping on stage. "Well hello to you too." He said realizing that he hadn't given her a proper hello. Of course, he wasn't too great with all the social stuff, so that should have been easy to forgive. He should have at least said hello, after being gone for almost an entire year anyways. He really did miss Vocal Adrenaline... He strummed mindlessly on the guitar as she spoke, not exactly looking at her, but he was listening. "Sunshine doesn't have to have all the solos!" He said frowning, his head whipping up from the guitar, "She's good and all, but if I'm being honest I don't think she's the best. There's a lot of good standout talent on our team." He told her, trying to imply that she could be one of those girls. But she was going to have to want it, and going to have to step up herself. Jesse could push her all he wanted to, but that would take them nowhere if Evelyn didn't want to sing solos. He shrugged as she spoke about his return to Vocal Adrenaline. "You know, the plan was to go to college, which would have meant that I couldn't come back. But since that didn't work out..." he let out a little chuckle, "Well, and since New Directions didn't work out either...here I am! Back right where I belong...home." He said, looking out into the auditorium. That's exactly what it was, he was home. "So what are you doing here, my dear?" He tended to use his terms of endearment for the females around here, and usually most females he met. He could be suave when he wanted to. "Everything okay, because when I come here, I'm usually trying to escape something..."tagged. evelyn (: ? notes. haii c: ~ credits. carolyn's sweet blasphemy *

Evelyn couldn’t understand how close they had became knowing that he was acting like a king most of the time, it was a bit odd that they ended up befriending with each other, having somewhat of a sane relationship. He was so much better than her brother; she found in him that he could be a good confident, even if most of the time he had an ego bigger than the size of their planet. She knew he was human, unlike many people’s opinion about him. He just was...harder to pull out with, she guessed. She never understood however how he seemed to want to have her be on stage and sing in front of the group. She didn’t think she had the karma to do it; she didn’t have Sunshine’s amazing voice or Jesse’s charisma. How would it turn out if she was the one standing out there...being stared at by numerous pair of eyes? The only thought gave her the nausea for a few moments before she returned her attention to the boy whom she thought had left her for good. She was glad he came back; they would be able to have a few chats like before. He really thought that Sunshine wasn’t all that good? She was curious about why he wanted suddenly to have other people singing in front of others. After all, he was most likely the one who used to do all the solos by himself, which he was doing an amazing job at this for the matter. Then again, she knew that Jesse usually had high standards about who was a good singer and who wasn’t-when he said someone was good was because he meant it. He didn’t say that easily. At least she knew she could trust him on that part, though, she did trust him on a various aspects of the special relationship they were sharing. “I am still uncertain about being able to pull one out by myself.” She admitted playing with her fingers still. That was another of her bad habits. People immediately knew about her shy nature by the way she acted, luckily when she was on stage people didn’t seem to notice all that much. She frowned as he told her that he didn’t make it to college, though she was happy at the same time since it meant that she would spend more time along with him. Maybe it was a selfish thought but she was sad that he didn’t tell her a proper good bye if he was to leave for good. She didn’t want to lose her only family! “It feels good here isn’t it?” She told him with a small smile before blinking at his statement. He most likely knew her too well to point out things like that. She let out a small sigh, before sitting down onto the stage, next to where he was standing. “My family is messed up...and I-I think my parents are going to divorce.” She said with a small voice, almost in a choke. The reasons? She had no ideas; all she knew it was that they constantly argued over silly and random things that were completely pointless to pay attention to.

It was interesting how Jesse and Evelyn were able to get along. Could Jesse call her a friend? He liked to think that he could. After all, he was pretty friendly with most of his Vocal Adrenaline group. There were the few bratty, snotty, or jealous types that didn't get along with him much. Wasn't like Jesse ever needed friends, but its was nice to know that he had a person or two that he could trust, and he was positive that Evelyn was one of them. After all, she had defended him once or twice. Not that Jesse needed it, but it was nice to see something like that anyways. She was so nice, such a sweet and innocent and beautiful girl. Needless to say, she was so different from Jesse. Usually someone that Jesse didn't exactly hang around, so it helped that she was a part of Vocal Adrenaline. Plus, she was a girl...and Jesse was always a little partial to those of the female gender. But she was really shy. If Jesse didn't already know that about her, it would have been very easy to tell. She was a fidgety little girl. He set the guitar aside to pay a little more attention to her, and grabbed her hands as she started playing with her fingers. "Trust me, I know talent. I could be a judge on American Idol or something, and I'd be the best damn judge. I've won Regionals four years straight and gotten into the top ten of Nationals every time I've competed. I've seen the best talent and the worst... so if I say you're good, well then you are pretty damn good!" He said as a soft little pep talk, giving the girl a little smile. His smile grew as she spoke about the room, and he let go of her hands to walk to the edge of the stage and looked out into the empty seats. He closed his eyes, as if he were imagining being on stage again. Of course, he felt as if he were in the heat of a competition again. And when those feelings arose? Well, Jesse certainly couldn't stop himself from singing. The funny thing was, he hadn't planned to sing a song so he just sang the first one that popped into his mind...and it happened to be Bruce Springsteen's "Jessie's Girl". "Jessie is a friend, Yeah, I know he's been A good friend of mine But lately something's changed That ain't hard to define Jessie's got himself a girl And I want to make her mine
And she's watching him with those eyes And she's lovin' him with that body, I just know it Yeah 'n' he's holding her in his arms late, Late at night
You know, I wish that I had Jessie's girl, I wish that I had Jessie's girl Where can I find a woman like that..."He came to his stop, and turned around to face Evelyn. He sang it as powerful as usual, although it kind of sounded like he was singing about himself in some awkward way. "Sorry dear. I couldn't help myself, I just kind of miss doing that."He shrugged, and sat himself down on the stage right beside Evelyn to listen to her speak. He frowned to himself. He knew what its was like to come from a dysfunctional family. He was living with his uncle, like he did when he went to McKinley. His siblings were trash and they ruined their lives...and Jesse was under the impression that they were jealous of him. After all, he was clearly favored by his parents and Jesse was one to milk that kind of attention. "I'm very sorry Evie. But you know, things all happen for a reason. And no matter what happens, I'm here for you whenever you need." It was a very uncharacteristic thing of Jesse to say, but Evelyn was like a younger sister to him. A younger sister that he really never had the chance to have since his own hated him so much. "You know what might make you feel better? A song. No... a duet! You can pick!"tagged. evelyn (: ? notes. haii c: ~ credits. carolyn's sweet blasphemy *

Evelyn never really understood how she ended up befriending someone like Jesse St.-James; he was popular, could get all the ladies he wanted, and far out of her league however, there they were sharing a bound that she wouldn’t even have with her own brother. It was almost a pity if you thought about it. How could someone like her, so erased, so...invisible could catch someone’s eye in the first place? He was probably one of the few who thought she had potential as a singer and she was quite thankful at this. At least, someone out there thought she had talent. She wasn’t even convinced about her own skills which resulted her remaining in the background, mainly because of that and the fact she feared facing a huge crowd while everyone else would be in her back, while she would be holding a solo. The only thought of it made her shiver. Solos... It wasn’t something she had expected to do in her entire high school career. It hadn’t happened yet and she obviously doubted that it would happen. She blinked as he spoke those words to her, almost not believing it; he truly seemed to be honest. Not that he had ever been dishonest with her. It was odd because everyone considered him a liar, a cheater, a jerk, and a god damn sexy man. At least, the last words were said by the ladies, she on the other hand, thought he indeed had a heart, even if she was the only one to witness such thing. A small smile appeared onto her lips and she nodded slightly. However, she couldn’t hold back a blush when he held her hands. While sitting down, she watched Jesse go into a musical burst, it made her smile. She always liked watching him act, he was a complete different person...well, not really but still, he was amazing to watch. When they did Bohemian Rhapsody for example, it was simply great and she would do it once again if she could along with him. It was only sad that now that he was out of high school, they wouldn’t get to do that anymore, but at least they still had him as a consultant. She giggled softly as he apologized for his sudden outburst and she shook her head. “Don’t worry, it’s good, I like to watch you.” She said in all honesty. She had a feeling that he would go far on the stages of Broadway if it was his dream. She looked up at him as he went to sit next to her and sighed after she spoke about her parents. It was a bit odd for her to open up to anyone but she knew that she could count on Jesse, so he was in rights to know what was wrong with her even if normally she would share that kind of stuff with a best friend. On the other hand...he could be considered to be like a best friend somehow right? She nodded; glad to know that at least someone was there to support her in a crisis. She knew that her brother wasn’t the kind of person who would do this; he never paid attention to her and when he did, it was either way to give her hell, or now that she gave him a reason to hate Jesse some more apparently, it was now to give Jesse hell. If only she had a normal family. “I really appreciate it.” She said to him shyly, while looking down at her hands for a few moments. Evelyn looked up at him with surprised for a few moments at his sudden suggestion; a duet? With him? A faint blush appeared onto her cheeks, remembering the time that Jesse was in Vocal Adrenaline. Well, it would surely cheer her up...A more confident smile appeared onto her lips as she stood up, looking down at him knowing quite well what she was in the mood for. “Tell me about it ...stud.” she grinned hoping he would find the connection to the Grease song and that it wouldn’t sound too awkward. Notes: omg jesse would be so great singing a grease song ahahahah <3

There was one thing that was always clear about Jesse, and that was his love for music. People could call him whatever they wanted, but his love for music, singing, and dancing had always been noticed. Maybe he had gone too far in his competition, always striving to be the best. But what was that saying? Something like "It was lonely at the top", and that's exactly where he was sitting right now...at the top.
But as the days went on from his last competition, he realized that people weren't going to remember his name forever. His impression was fading, and he was slowly coming down from the top of the world, and he was finding several people on those "lower levels". Still, Jesse was at a crossroad. Should he continue his hike upwards and continue to crush the competition just for the bragging rights? Or should he take it down a notch and actually make friends?
Luckily, he had several friends that appreciated him just the way he was now, but he couldn't be sure on how long that was going to last. But his relationship with Evelyn was something quite unique. It was unexplainable, but Jesse had put a lot of his time into Evelyn. He had spent extra hours working with her, dancing, and singing and whatnot. But a duet? This would be their first. He was quite excited for it. After all, there was nothing more than singing that he loved.
A smile crossed his face when she recited that all too famous line from Grease. Of course he knew every song in the musical. It would be rare to find a musical that had a song that Jesse didn't know. And suddenly Jesse was imagining that the entire auditorium was full of adoring fans, and he was in the spotlight once more. He probably should have appreciated the fact that they were just singing alone, but he belonged in the spotlight. That was the only place he ever wanted to be.
"I got chills, they're multiplyin' And I'm loosing contro-ol, cause the power, you're supplying..."
[/i] At that part, Jesse slid on his knees towards Evelyn so that his head was by her waist and looked up towards her, "It's electrifying!"[/i] He put all of his passion and drama into every word that was sung. Because that was the way to do it... tagged. evelyn (: ? notes. blehhh, a little short :/ ~ credits. carolyn's sweet blasphemy *[/blockquote]

Grease was one of the best musicals Evelyn had ever seen, along with The Phantom of the Opera. They were her favorites and she knew every lines and songs. Of course, she knew several of others from different musicals; Hair Spray was growing to be one she cherished as well. The moves, the lyrics, the acting, it was all registered in the back of her mind. Right when she had said the famous line, the movie was playing in front of her, Jesse being now John Travolta as she stood like Olivia Newton John waiting for a reply from him. The first musical she had ever watched was Grease; as she was a kid, she would dance along with the television and sing the lyrics with her little heart on. It didn’t take long before the family was bored and tired of hearing it for she played it over and over again. It even came to one point where she was doing the musical herself, in front of the family. Now, the girl that was on stage wasn’t Evelyn, but Sandy singing along with Danny. She liked the thought; for once she was able to sing it with someone who’d be willing to participate along with her; her brother always thought of doing something like that was a lame and considering how he treated her on a daily basis, none of them was inclined to do anything with each other. Being in character, Evelyn tried to restrain laughter as he came to the act, playing along with her. She was enjoying it and she thought that it somehow tightened the strange bond they were having with each other. She moved like Sandy, watching him sliding on his knees, restraining a stupid grin as she listened to him singing. She even mimicked as if she was stomping on a cigarette before pushing him lightly with her foot, while she began singing her part. “You better shape up, 'cause I need a man and my heart is set on you. You better shape up; you better understand to my heart I must be true.” She was holding him when it was needed, adding in the passion playing along with Jesse. It was fun; they should do this more often she thought. “You're the one that I want. (you are the one i want), o,o, oo, honey. The one that I want. (you are the one i want want), o,o,oo, honey. The one that I want (you are the one i want want), o,o, ooooo The one I need. Oh, yes indeed. ”

As Jesse had grown up, he had realized that he had several options for what his profession could be when he grew up. All of them were dangerous choices and very risky. But that was the risk of choosing the entertainment industry, wasn't it?
His first choice was a professional singer. Let's face it, Jesse was good at singing. He could have very well stood a fighting chance of making it in the industry. And his tours? Those would be amazing. After all, he would be able to work the stage and totally own it. But he decided that he would be deemed as too broadway.
Which was why broadway was his second choice. He loved to act, he loved to dance, and he loved to sing. There was really only one place to do that...and that was as a part of the cast of a musical theater play. He could go anywhere in the world to do that, there were theaters everywhere. But where were they popular? None other than New York's Broadway! That was where everyone who aspired to be anything in their lives wanted to be. Jesse thought this would even be the best choice for someone who excelled at something like show choir. If he could make a living off of show choirs, he would. Right now, he had no choice but to be a consultant and keep his consulting business going. But if he lost two years in a row? That wouldn't do him any good, his business would surely fail. But Jesse didn't' loose, not when he was with Vocal Adrenaline.
So things like this, singing to a musical in the auditorium, were thought of as great practice for what could very well be in Jesse's future. If he wasn't in character right now, he might have laughed when Evelyn pushed him with her foot. She was doing a great job at acting, but the funny things was that this whole thing was very uncharacteristic of her. He fell backwards, almost like Danny had done in the plays and movie and then stood up to deliver his line.
"Nothin' left, nothin' left for me to do!"
He twirled her around when they got to the chorus and danced beside her.
"You're the one that I want. (you are the one i want), o,o, oo, honey. The one that I want. (you are the one i want want), o,o,oo, honey. The one that I want (you are the one i want want), o,o, ooooo The one I need. Oh, yes indeed."
He was certainly in his element right now.

If anyone was to step in and knew Evelyn, they would certainly think that it is odd for her to act this way. She wasn’t the kind of person who would so such thing naturally, it simply had to come from a performance. Grease had always been a movie she favored ever since she was a kid but she knew that she would never be like Sandy from the movie. The way she changed herself for the man she loved, she didn’t approve such a behavior. She was more in the lines of thinking that the person would accept you no matter who you were and if they didn’t that simply meant that they weren’t wroth of it. But then again, she was way to shy to ever consider having a love affair with any guy, despite the various crushes she was having on a few people she had met, like Kevin or Greg or Jesse.
She was having affection for Jesse of course, but she thought it was deeper than just a crush, maybe she was going crazy thinking that but she was assuming that their bounded was something different, something unique that no one would understand but them to have. Maybe that sounded selfish, she didn’t know, it certainly sounded weird and as if she was full of herself if she thought about that while performing a Sandy role. She wondered about if Jesse was feeling the same way as she was, maybe he was, and maybe he wasn’t. Who knows, it’s not like if she was going to ask him anyways. She thought it’d be too extreme for her to ask him such a question.
There was one thing she was sure about however and it was that she loved to perform, the only thing that was pulling her back from being in the spotlight like Jesse was constantly craving for it was her shyness. The simple thought of having billions of eyes watching her singing and doing a performance frightened her. She couldn’t shake off the feeling, shake off the fact that she might do something clumsy and feared to fail and make the choir fail because of this.
But doing something like this, playing the Sandy while Jesse was the Danny? It was complete crack! She loved this and it proved that she was in her element. The love that Jesse had to show off like that was dying on her; it was sad however that she couldn’t do any performance with Jesse anymore because he was going to be now just a show choir consultant.
