Alie sighed as she wandered out of her shop, having done her job just fine for the day. She used to have a word with her boss who told her that he’d have to cut her hours even if she was a good employee, others were apparently complaining about wanting more hours and even if she was more in need of money than them, she was the one coping. Why were these kind of bad lucks always happening to her? Oh right, she was poor and the poor always was inferior to those who had more money right? But wasn’t a job made so she could have money? He used as an excuse he couldn’t make a student work more than a normal person but wasn’t a student a normal person? She was just busier since she had exam and things but in summer vacations, she was fine.
She thought she was going to have benefits since she was one of the best employees he had but those who had to go to the University were in the boss’ priority apparently they needed more money than she did. Yeah right, let their parents pay for them. That’s what always happened. She sighed as she wandered around the mall, angry at the news and mumbled a few words under her breath hoping she could show to her boss that he was doing a mistake; she didn’t want to end up in the street because her mother was incompetent into finding a work. Well, incompetent wasn’t the word; she was more like unmotivated if you could put it that way. She didn’t find life all that entertaining and she always found the woman drunk in the living room and this also pissed her off. Her mother and the lack of money was the main reasons of why she hid her true identity; if only the students knew of her current situation, she knew that she wouldn’t be as easily accepted unlike now while she told them that her family was fine whenever they dared to question.
She needed to find a new job, something that could bring her enough money so she could at least support herself. She thought she was the one acting like a parent and not her mother, it was an odd situation but she had to deal with it since most of her life and she knew that it wasn’t about to change. She sighed and dropped herself down on a bench as she watched people going around the mall, wanting to get the newest things around while she was having money troubles. The last thing she wanted was their pity but from time to time, she would most likely be on the verge of breaking down. She rested her head into her hands as she tried to think of a possible solution.

Addison didn't really know what she was doing at the mall. It wasn't exactly a place where she belonged. She wasn't like most girls, after all. She didn't like shopping for clothes and shoes. Her more style was a little more "out there" than the rest. Sleazy, in some people's opinions. But their opinions meant nothing to her. The only people she really cared about where the ones that were her friends, and truthfully, if they couldn't handle her style or behavior then there was no need to be their friend. Addie wasn't going to change for anyone. The only other reason to be at the mall if you weren't shopping, was to gawk at groups of guys. Addison didn't gawk at guys. There was absolutely nothing attractive about them. Well, she could tell the difference between a good looking guy and an ugly one, but none of that mattered to her. No, she wanted a pretty face, soft-skinned, sweet lady. It was too bad that it was "wrong" and "gross" and whatever else those idiots wanted to call it. Well, Addison could have easily made the trip down to the mall to gawk at the girls that gawked at the guys, but she didn't gawk. Well, not at that crowd, the ones that might as well have had "DESPERATE" scribbled across their foreheads. Addison would have rather watched them attempt to communicate with the "cute boys" and watch it turn into an utter failure. Now that was amusing, and it was even better with a box of popcorn…but that would just make it creepy.
Now, although Addison wasn't accustomed to traveling to the mall, she wasn't accustomed to being locked up in her house all day. She was alone because her brother had his friends, being the social butterfly that he was. He was her best friend, and he did invite her to hang out with him and all his guy friends. Sometimes Addison accepted, but she could only handle so much "guy time" in her life. Right now, she would rather trudge through the mall alone than spend time with more guys talking about skateboards and bikes and beers and…girls.
Addison was tragically lonely, but she could handle another lonesome trip through the mall. It wasn't anything out of the ordinary anyways. After all, she had heard that a new smoothie place was opening up and it was supposed to have the best flavors known to man. So as she was briskly walking through the mall trying to locate her destination, she had to keep telling herself that she needed to try the so-called greatest smoothies in the world, or else she would have turned on her heels and walked right out. The mall just smelled of preppy bitches and desperation.
Luckily, a familiar face caught her attention. Well, to be honest it was more like the familiar head of hair because the face was momentarily covered. Not many girls at school liked to change their hair color, especially to something so unnatural. Except for Addison and Alie, who is the girl she spotted sitting on the bench. Being one of her only female friends, and one of her closest for that matter, she was worth the time to stop and converse with. There were certain people that were certainly not worth the time, but Alie wasn't one of those people. They were pretty tight friends, both of them unlike the rest of the girls in school, and actually the entire town for that matter.
"Oh, it's you again." Addison said to the girl, in mock disappointment. In reality, she was actually really glad to see the girl because this was a good time for some interaction from someone other than her brother and his friends. Besides, there was no doubt that Alie was attractive, not that Addison was going to act on that or anything. It wasn't like she had a crush on the girl, although in the past she had firmly believed that the girl was a lesbian. She smiled as she spoke, as she often greeted her friends in that manner. With that, she plopped her butt down right next to Alie on the bench. "So, what are you up to right now? I was actually headed down to the new smoothie place that opened up today. You know, the best smoothies in the world. I figured I would never know until I tried." She told her as she grabbed the flyer out of her book, and read directly off of it, "Free 8 ounce Tootie Fruity Lemon Booty if you buy one 16 ounce anything…well, if it has the word Booty in it, it has to be good! You want to join me, you look like you could use a horribly named smoothie to brighten your day. I'll pay."
"But don't flatter yourself," Addison said laughing lightly and standing up, "It's not a date."

Alie tried to think of any ways she could get more hours of work or another job if it’s really needed. Maybe it was the time for her to make a change of life and go somewhere else than a music shop. She didn’t know where she would go to find one if she had to do this, the mall again? Maybe a better music shop? Really, she didn’t want to quit it; she loved it and she could also practice some guitar while there weren’t any customers around. Besides, she even managed to have the spots of a supervisor, dealing with the shop all by herself from time to time helping the people to find the music they wanted and like, no matter how weird their tastes could be at times. She wasn’t one to judge them though, even her tastes could be considered as odd at some points; she could listen to a heavy metal song and the next second have some good old rap, depending on who was the artist of course. She liked iconic models too, like Michael Jackson, the king of the pop. She loved his dancing and even managed to moonwalk, looking at his music videos from time to time when it was famous. Though, even at this time he was still famous.
She liked also some Madona and even Lady Gaga at some point. Her style was so odd, that it was what made her business roll on money she figured. Her look wasn’t strange, but it wasn’t normal either. Well, it was more like poor looking but she didn’t mind it much, as long as the students didn’t start questioning her about that that is. She had her hair bright red, or orange even when she felt like it. She loved the color. She knew that her hair was naturally red, but not as bright as she wished it to be. So sometimes she would dye it with various shades she liked; thinking that they would look great under a spot light if she ever had to do some head banging-if ever. Eh.
She blinked as she heard a familiar voice. She could recognize it even in a huge crowd with everyone chatting around and speaking loudly. A smirk appeared onto her lips at her remark as she looked up at her friend; the only one who knew of her ‘true identity’ though she still thought it was awkward. She knew that the girl standing in front of her wasn’t fazed by it, and just thought it was ‘normal’ and that she should be proud of herself but the simple thought frightened her. The opinions of others frightened her even more even if she appeared as if she didn’t care about those.
Her eyes slowly met up with the girl as she continued speaking, talking to her about smoothies. Ah, smoothies; that seemed like a good idea. She did hear of that shop since she worked often at the mall but never really went there-not like she had the money for it anyways. She offered it? Well then, hurray! Her smirk grew wider at her last comments, making her chuckle. “Y’know you can’t resist me.” She joked quite aware of her friend’s sexuality; she didn’t mind it and respected her for who she was, just like she did with herself. “Just having a bad day, but I cannot refuse anything free, it’s rare these days.” She added while standing up and smiling at her friend. “It’s odd though to see you here at the mall, came alone?” she asked looking around, knowing that sometimes she would hang out with her brother and his friends.

It was nice to have that one person that knew just about everything about you. They were always there for you, you could always tell them what was wrong without having to hide anything, and they would like you for who you were and nothing else. That was what Alie was to Addie. Their names were even so much alike! Alison and Addison with their similar nicknames as well! It was kind of funny, and it had just been another way for the two of them to click. They could make jokes with each other, and sometimes even about each other while still knowing it was all a joke. So far, Addie couldn't think of any downsides to having a friendship like that.
They were like the three musketeers...well, two. But between the two of them there was enough personality for a third person...so it worked. Addison was pleased that Alie trusted her enough to tell her everything. She really hadn't had a friend like that before. Addie had placed her trust in plenty of people in the past, and that had backfired ninety-nine percent of the time. This was the first time that someone placed their trust in Addison. She didn't seem like the person to trust with her odd hair and clothing style. But that was a stereotype. She wasn't anything like the "scene" or "goth" or whatever else they were going to call that style. She didn't even know. She just wore what she wore and kept her hair dyed because of a bet. Even then, even if the bet was cancelled, she still just might keep the hair color. She might have been one of the only ones at school, but there were several other, like Alie. Yet another reason why they were perfect friends!
She seemed to always be calling attention to herself, and it wasn't like she even wanted to. But she stuck out like a sore thumb in the school environment. Just like every other kid with odd colored hair. But sometimes she felt like she stuck out that much more because of her sexuality. It was horrible that there were people that were shallow enough to judge her based on that alone, but that was something that she had learned to live with. Alie accepted her, and Addison couldn't be more grateful. She had Gabe, her brother, and Alie at school and she was happy knowing that there would always be at least two people. Addie would rather blend in with the background, and just get through high school and move on with life after that.
But no. Addison was doomed to suffer as a stand out "target" for the bullies at the school.
It was a wonder that she had any friends at all after being called out and shoved into lockers so many times. She would assume that people would prefer to stay away from her just based on what other people thought. The guys would usually be a little less cruel than the girls, but when they weren't, they were a little more physical. But it was the words and the looks of disgust that seemed to hurt the most. Well, it hurt at the beginning, but Addison got used to it, and she got stronger. The only downside was that there wasn't any girl in school that she could relate to. Well, at least none that she knew of, because there might be a closet case or two running around the school.
Not that any of that mattered anymore. Addison had a good life. She had a loving family and a fantastic best friend. And if they ran into each other at the mall, they could strike up a conversation without feeling awkward at all. That was one of the best parts, especially at the moment right now.
"Come with me," Addie said softly, motioning for Alie to follow her so that they could walk towards the smoothie shop as they talked. It was on the other side of the mall, and now Addison was actually glad that she hadn't parked closer to it. She let out a laugh as Alie joked back, "Maybe I'm into you, just a little." She replied in as witty a tone as she could manage, but adding a wink at the end to show that she was joking. Nobody else could joke around with Addison like that, unless it was a guy, because they would all think it was flirting. That was just who Addie was, she liked to joke and tease and mess around. She just couldn't really be herself around most people without it being awkward. Yeah, I came alone today. I'm really just here for the smoothies, but I'm glad I found you. Gabe is out with his friends again, and I didn't really feel like tagging along. Being around a lot of boys that are younger than you isn't that fun. I mean, they're cute, but they're just not my type." Her lips threatened to curve into a smile as she spoke, though she had been trying to look as serious as she could. "So, you're having a bad day, huh? You want to tell me about it?"

The friendship Alie was sharing with Addison was rather unique to say the least. They both had a few common friends, and the funny thing was that they all had red hair. The irony? She was probably the only one who had natural red hair; she just liked to spice up the color of her hair. Besides, she did think that it complimented her porcelain like color of skin. Instead of fighting against the sun to get a tan it was better to give a nice value to what she had already right? Well, if the answer wasn’t correct, it was still what she thought about.
What was a bit odd to her thought was that she was able to share her real life with her. She was able to be herself, as poor and lacking of resource and she wouldn’t judge her on that, hell, she was even offering things here and there! However, it did make her feel bad because if she thought about it, she did own him a load shit of things. If only she could give all back what she had given to her, she would gladly do it but the situation wasn’t helping the matters.
A small smile appeared onto her lips as Addie invited her and she nodded. The girl certainly knew how to make her feel better. She would hang out with her friend often, even her brother. They were nice kids. Alison wished she had a family like Addison had. Unfortunately, life decided it wasn’t going to happen that way. She had to see the bright side of darkness; maybe she was going to be stronger than anyone and had already the responsibilities of an adult by paying for everything? Joy, acting like an adult while she wanted to act like a teenager. Ah well, it wasn’t as if she had the choice to do it or not.
A smirk however appeared onto her lips as Addison told her she was into her, a little. She laughed a little as it switched to a smile. She wasn’t disgusted by the fact she was attracted by girls. As long as Addison respected her for who she was, she didn’t see how she couldn’t do the same!
“I knew it!” She joked back, nudging the arm of her friend lightly in the process. “Aw, I would hang out with you if you hang out with them, that way, I could gaze at them while you gaze at me.” She replied with a chuckle obviously still joking, though, she did find her brother cute. A small smile appeared onto her lips at her friend’s question and she nodded slightly. “Meh, job is job I guess, they’re slacking on my hours.” She said with a frown. This was seriously going to be a problem for her if she didn’t get more.

Addison could never imagine living life in poverty. She had been more than privileged her entire life, to say the least. Well, at least as privileged as Ohio would allow a person to get. Nice houses, a car for each of the kids, and somebody to clean the house from time to time. Things like that were normal for Addison. She didn't need a job to help pay the rent...there was no rent! In fact, her parents were renting their second home to another family right now! Obviously, there were downsides to all of this. Sure she'd be able to go to a good college, but what kind of company was going to hire an incompetent employee? The kind that were like Addison that had never worked a day in their lives?
Kids like Addie grew up to be lazy. The kids were always supposed to be more successful than their parents? Yeah right. Addison was on the road to hell. What kind of future did a lazy alcoholic lesbian have? Not much, from what she could tell. She didn't even have any money of her own. She had a credit card that linked her straight to her parents' account. People could always call her lucky... but she didn't see the luck in her future. Frankly, she didn't know what she was going to do with herself.
However, she didn't even want to think about what Alie was going through. And in all honesty, she didn't blame the girl for wanting to keep her family life a secret. Not that it was anything to be ashamed of. But Addison learned the hard way that being proud of who you were wasn't always accepted by all the kids at the school. If Alie went and told people about her financial situation, a lot of the ass holes would use that as an opportunity to make themselves feel good by talking down on her. It was stupid, but that was how some of them functioned. Oh, how Addison would kill to know what their biggest secrets were! Addison would never do that to someone, though. How someone lived, or who someone liked wasn't how you were supposed to define a person. But anyways, for now, Alie needed a friend. And as long as Alie was there for Addison, then she would return the favor. They had a special friendship, Addie was certainly aware of that.
"Was it really that obvious?" Addison smirked, returning to her joke of a conversation with Alie. "Damn." But there was still a smile on her face. There really wasn't that much more that Addie loved than having fun and joking around with people. She stifled a laugh as Alie spoke of 'gazing'. "I'm sure they'd enjoy having someone they can hit on. Maybe I can arrange something next time, for your sake."
"You know, I really wish I could help you out with your job, or at least give advice. But advice coming from someone who's never worked before? That would be pretty fucked up, in my opinion." She sighed, wishing that she could be a good friend and help out in some way. "All I can say is stay strong, keep fighting, and tell me if you ever need anything. Seriously." She said, in what she hoped was an encouraging tone. "Shit. That smoothie line is out the door! It must be good... at least this will give us time to decide which strange flavor we like."

Alie chuckled; spending time with Addison was the best thing she could think about to cheer her up; she was awesome, there were no doubts about it. Who cared about if she was attracted to girls and not boys? Certainly not Alison. She loved the girl; in a friendly manner of course, they were like sisters and she was the only person she could rely of if she had any issues that were related to her real life. It felt good to know that she could talk about her problems to someone without having them to judge her.
It was odd however, considering that Addison was one of the ‘rich’ while she was one of the ‘poor’. Whenever she was coming over to her house, paying her and her brother a visit, her eyes always went big; such luxury for a small family. A car for each children; she wished she could just have one for both of her and her mother, but considering her mom’s state, she knew it was better not to have any, besides it only occurred more money spending and that wasn’t something needed while you already lacked of it.
She laughed at her friend’s comment as she spoke about her brother and his friends; she liked to hang around them, they were never boring and she had to admit; they were one of the few people who could cheer her up. Usually she would remain…normal and ‘tough’ looking but with the two siblings, she could be herself, a teenager having fun, which wasn’t something she could do often for she was used playing the adult part in her own ‘family’. “I know, I’m just so hot, their eyes will always linger on me.” She added winking at her friend before giving Addison a small smile. “You don’t have to do this; I already have enough of dealing with them in classes…” she said playfully with a laugh however, she couldn’t hide she’d like to spend more time with Gabe too.
A wide smile appeared onto her lips as Addie told her that she’d like to help her out; this girl was a gem, she hoped she knew it. “Enjoy it when you can.” She said not wanting to have any pity from Addison; for it was the last thing she’d like to receive from her.
She frowned seeing the line. “They better be worth it!” She said with a grin. “Good thing we’re not in a hurry eh.” She said with a sigh as she ran a hand through her hair.

Even though Addie was with Alie now, it was still weird being in the mall. She still felt like she didn't belong, or fit in. Well, there weren't many places where she felt like she could fit in. She hoped that she might fit in with the New Directions kids, but maybe even some of them wouldn't be too accepting of her. At least she'd have Kurt in the same room with her, that was going to be a plus. But they were still going to be at the same high school, with all the same jerk-jocks and all the same slushies. Couldn't the school board just stop the sale of these slushies? They tasted great, but only when they were in Addison's mouth, not on her hair or stinging her eyes.
The mall felt like a foreign land. Every now and then Addie's mom used to take her school shopping for clothes at the mall, which was something that she hated more than anything. Sure, she didn't mind spending time with her mother, but clothes shopping? The word shopping could be enough to make Addison gag sometimes. She hated it, but it had to be done. Usually, that was the most time she had spent at the mall this year. Today, she had only had the choice of standing like a creeper outside of Breadstix or come to the mall, and she chose the less awkward one. She always wondered what it might be like to take Gabe and do a street performance with him. It wasn't like they needed to do that for money... but what if she did that with Alie instead of Gabe? That might actually be fun. Besides, she'd always wanted to try it.
"Hey, so I just got this brilliant idea! Well, I hope you think this idea is as brilliant as I do..." she paused to laugh a little bit, "But if you're going to have more free time, then maybe you'd like to try a street performance with me? I know they have a special name, but I can't remember it right now... but like, you can play guitar or drums or whatever the hell you want and I'll sing, or vice versa. And we can open the guitar case and hope people are generous enough to give money and not yell 'Fag' in my face. It would be a whole lot of fun, and if you wanted I could force Gabe to come!" She was talking really fast, and she hadn't even realized that she had just used the "Gabe" card to try and get her to agree.
But they had quite some time to discuss the option of doing this, as they stood in line for the smoothies, and Addison pulled the flyer from her bag again and started looking at the long list of random smoothie names. "Here, you can pick first!" She handed the flyer to Alie after skimming over the names, "They sound horrible, so I really hope I'm not wasting my money on blended pieces of shit." She smirked. But would she be wasting her money? No, she would be wasting her parents money.

Alison was starting to think that she was going to be crazy waiting into an endless line of people waiting for nothing but smoothies. She never understood when things like this happened. Waiting in a line to have the thing before many people would ever try it out…she didn’t see the point of it. Besides, she had more important things to do besides that, like, looking for a job for example! She sighed once again shaking her head. She needed to think about something else or else, she was going to sulk all day over it and she didn’t want Addison to have to endure her down side. She was already considering herself as being lucky to manage to have a friend who respected her no matter how poor she was. It was amazing and she was enjoying every minutes she was spending with the girl.
Yeah, the smoothies were better to be great! She thought looking at the place, which was far far away. Geez, she was hoping to be patient enough to even deal with the wait that they were going to have them to endure. She grunted before turning her attention back to Addison as she began talking again about a ‘brilliant idea’. She blinked at her first words but decided to let her friend continue to phrase her wonderful idea, curious about it.
A street performance? She frowned; she didn’t want to be like one of these hobos…asking for money while playing music. But then again, maybe it could be fun, it was so conflicting! She frowned uncertain about the idea that Addison gave her, pondering about this. “Are you sure you want to do that? I mean, it’s not like I can sing or anything…and I can’t afford myself any instrument.”She pointed out to her friend while arching an eyebrow lightly. “But…I guess we could try..some day.” She said abducting with a sigh.
She blinked once again though as her friend gave her the list of the smoothies they were selling. The names, most of these were ridiculous in her opinion and weren’t going to be worth a shot. There were so many. “They do sound horrible.” She agreed almost being ashamed to even wait in line for a smoothie wearing such a name. “As long as it’s not my money.” She mused back, a smirk appearing onto her lips as her eyes continued scanning every flavor they had.
