Even the best laid plans of mice and men often go astray. Max had heard that saying before, but really, he figured it was just something losers spouted so they did not feel so horrible when they failed at everything they did. He never thought it could apply to him. His plan when he entered the hallowed halls of McKinley High was to build his reputation the old-fashioned way, by seducing everything in a mini-skirt and at least a B-cup. Sure, he had just met Quinn, but she did not seem like the type of girl to be just another one of his conquests. For better or worse, he knew that she was someone who wanted, and deserved more than that.
He listened to her explain the horrid woman that was Sue Sylvester. He had heard some of the guys rag on that she was something of a monster who reveled in teenage misery, but really he figured they were over-stating things. It did not make sense that someone who loathed teenagers would not just work at a high school, but as a cheerleading coach, where teenage hormones and drama were most rampant. "Sounds like someone needs to get laid," he commented quietly, before realizing that such a comment was probably ridiculously inappropriate, "Sorry."
Max nodded his head as Quinn explained the concept of the slushie, coined by the football team's very own Noah Puckerman. He knew that the guy was a self-proclaimed bad ass, but did not really think he was capable of inventing such a prank, and it catching on like it had. Perhaps his social status was a little high than Max had anticipated. She explained that the most frequent victims were the members of the school Glee Club, which made sense. At his last school, the glee club consisted of the misfits who could not find anyone decent to go to dances with, so they just dated each other. "So wait, you two are in the glee club? I thought you were in the Cheerios. Don't those two kind of...clash?" he asked, not that he wanted to offend them, it just seemed like an unlikely pairing.
He smiled as Quinn instructed Brittany to return the towels to the locker room. So it was as he suspected, she was the Queen Bee here. Once the girl had left, he turned to Quinn, grinning playfully, "So does pretty much everyone just do what you tell them to here?"

Quinn smiled at Brittany as she left to go return the towels, the blonde was actually quite happy Britt had agreed to go with her to see Sue. After all, they were now back on the cheerio’s, she’d met Max and it felt like Brittany’s and her friendship was sort of returning in quite a big way. She’d missed Brittany’s friendship when they basically became enemies because of Santana. Though, Quinn would never admit it. Brittany always made the whole atmosphere around her a little more positive and optimistic, which was what made the blonde a good person to be around and have as a friend. So, Q was more than happy to accept this new page and fresh start in their friendship, but she had a feeling it wouldn’t last long because of Santana but still. She might as well enjoy it while it lasted, however long that might be.
Then, when the door closed behind her fellow cheerio and she’d come back to reality, she smiled at Max. “Yeah, Cheerio’s and Glee are the complete opposite. There’s like so much drama between the two it is unbelievable, but we put up with it.” Quinn commented, truthfully. She was actually expecting him not to want anything to do with her because of the whole show choir thing. After all, most people didn’t. It made her happy that he didn’t though, because if she was being honest she was actually enjoying his company. That’s when he asked about the whole ‘Queen Bee’ thing, she knew he was just being flirtatious which made her smile but she wasn’t sure whether to be honest about that. It took her a few seconds of deliberation before she decided to just be slightly truthful about it. “Well, sort-of.” She said, winking and holding back a little flirtatious giggle. Quinn wasn’t about to tell him about the whole Pregnancy and stuff that had actually meant she became the opposite of the ‘Queen Bee’, but she was trying to rebuild her popularity so it was true in most ways.

Max's brain was still busy trying to figure out exactly how Quinn could be a member of both the status-conscious Cheerios and what seemed like the bottom-of-the-barrel Glee Club. The two clubs seemed like a complete contradiction, but perhaps he was still missing something. After all, he was new to Lima, and had clearly already determined that things were different in a small-town than what he was used to in the city. Still, nobody could like being stuck in the middle of opposing classes, and the girl mentioned that there was significant drama between the groups. "So why don't you just quit one of them? It seems like more trouble than it's worth."
Quinn just gave off the vibe of a girl who knew exactly what she wanted, and was willing to do whatever she needed to in order to get it. Girls like that tended to rule the school, one way or the other, from Max's experience, even if there was that little issue of also being in geek club, or glee club. The truth was, Max sort of admired it. He was pretty musically-inclined himself, having taken piano classes himself for six years, but he quit once he hit high school. He did not want to be associated with the nerds in the band.
Taking a seat on the sink, Max noticed that Quinn actually had a small chunk of slushie in her hair herself. In the chaos of hurling the freezing drink at him, she must have gotten herself a little bit too. "Hang on a second. You have a little slushie in your hair," he said, reaching a hand into her tightly-pulled blonde hair to wipe it away. As he did so, the two of them made eye-contact. Wow, her eyes were beautiful.
As all this happened, however, one of Max's greater fears came to reality. The door to the girls' restroom swung open, and a very stunned looking Coach Beiste appeared. "What in the name of God is going on here?" she roared in her angry coaching voice. It did look bad, Max knew. He was shirtless in the girls' restroom with his hands on Quinn Fabray. "Fabray, I hear you slushie my players as they are getting out of the shower, and now you bring my new kid to the restroom for a little between-class delight? Haven't you learned anything? And Pennetta, you should know better. You'd think after all the problems at your last school you'd be on good behavior."
"Uh, this isn't what it looks like," Max attempted to say, though with so little conviction that even he didn't believe it.

Quinn watched Max as he moved to go take a seat on the sink, were Brittany had been sitting earlier. She couldn’t help but notice that he was absolutely gorgeous, with his shaggy blonde hair and well defined features. The blonde had to look down at her feet to stop herself staring, before she heard him talk and she lifted them again. This time though, she didn’t stare which was good for her otherwise he’d probably think she was some weirdo. “So why don't you just quit one of them? It seems like more trouble than it's worth." She heard him ask, which kind of made her smile. She’d had that conversation with herself so many times it was unbelievable, literally she was bored of listening to herself and trying to convince herself to quit. “It is, sometimes. Though, I’ve tried not being on the cheerio’s and I’ve tried not being in Glee but it just doesn’t work.” She muttered, smiling happily. “I know this is going to sound really stupid, but it’s like I can’t have one without the other.” Q added, explaining.
It did sound stupid, she knew that, but it was also true. She loved Glee Club, but she also loved the Cheerio’s and she knew that as long as there was a possibility of her being on both then she would do anything to make sure she was. After all, Glee Club gave her a sense of acceptance and family where as Cheerio’s gave her, her popularity and pride. They were the only two clubs in the whole entire school she’d ever been interested in and she loved them both. So, she stayed determined and made sure that she could have the best of both worlds; the popular world of the blonde cheerleader and the world of acceptance every member of the New Directions had. It was the best recipe for her and she loved how it worked. She got everything she ever wanted, well apart from one thing; a long lasting relationship that didn’t end in disaster, but really that was her own fault and she felt terrible for it.
That’s when Max’s voice, which seemed to put a smile on her face, brought her back to reality. He watched him get up and approach her to pull the piece of slush from her blonde hair. Their eyes met then and it was like one of the most perfect moments. His eyes were very pretty and her emotions were carried away, she knew she had feelings for him then. As she was about to speak, the door opened and Coach Beiste marched inside. The sound of the slamming door made Quinn jump and unintentionally she’d jumped toward, instead of away from, Max. Beiste had never really like the blonde cheerleader, so it made the situation a whole lot worse. As the coach yelled at them, she took one step away from Max even though she didn’t want to. Q didn’t want to be the reason why he got into trouble, when he’d only just arrived at this school.
So, Quinn took one step toward the obviously angry football coach and looked her in the eye. “Sorry Coach, this is really my fault. I slushied him by accident and was helping him clean up, that’s all.” Although, the blonde wasn’t stupid and she knew that’s not what it must have looked like but at least it wasn’t a complete lie. “Sorry about the football team too, I was angry at them and got a bit carried away.” She lied, but didn’t deny it because it was obvious it was her who’d done it. So there really was no point in making up a stupid little lie about it was there? Instead she just stood there, not daring to move or say anything else incase Coach freaked out again.

Quinn jumped at the sound of the door violently swinging open. That, or she jumped at the sight of the horrible monster of a lady Coach Beiste. Either way, she jumped toward Max, and he very much enjoyed that. At least the lumberjack’s contribution to the current atmosphere was not all negative. Allowing his hands to naturally slide down the small of Quinn’s back as they were screamed at, he knew she was interested. She was very interested, and stunningly beautiful to boot. While there were certainly still a great number of secrets to unravel, there was definitely a connection there. Not to mention, with her on his arm, his ascension to epic popularity was all but guaranteed. The more jealous teammates, the better, as far as Max was concerned. They could sit at home with their Nintendo’s or chronically disproportioned girlfriend’s knowing that Max had, by far, the hottest girl at McKinley on his arm, or somewhere else.
Quinn took the bullet for him, informing the football coach that their conspicuous position in the girls’ bathroom was entirely her fault, and admitted to having slushied Max and the rest of the football team. She left off the bit about Coach Sylvester putting her up to the dirty deed, though he chose not to bring that up. Certainly, if the girl wanted Beiste to know her true reasoning, she would have told. The California native was well-versed enough in the language of lying to know that. Instead, he simply stepped forward, to Quinn’s side and added, “C’mon Coach. From what I’ve heard, those guys pretty much had it coming. Besides, after a hot practice aren’t we encouraged to take an ice bath?” he chimed in, though he was pretty unsure how the mammoth would respond. She was a pretty lonely middle-aged lady, and knew that she was never going to find any form of love in this shallow world. That kind of person was prone to take that pent up frustration out on a couple of delicious looking blondes like him and Quinn, no matter how unfair it was.
Instead, however, she relented, at least a little. Shaking her head slowly, she stared the two of them down before saying, “Look, the school year is just starting, and I really don’t want my top wide receiver getting into trouble before the first game. You,” she said, pointing a figure at Quinn, “No more slushies Ever. So help me God, if I hear that you even thought about throwing a slushie in anyone’s face, I will go straight to Figgins to get you removed from the Cheerios. Pennetta, no more trips to the girls’ room, I don’t give a crap who tells you to come in. Now both of you get to class.” she declared, obvious annoyance in her voice. “Oh and Pennetta, might want to put a shirt on first.”
Max nodded his head as he started for the door. Turning around as he back out, he winked at the pretty blonde, “I’ll see you soon, Quinn.”

Quinn was glad that Max had stayed quite about the real reason she slushied the football team. After all, if she’d said it was Sue that put her up to it then coach Beiste would’ve went to her and that would’ve eventually led to her being kicked off the cheerio’s. So, instead she just lied about it and said it was all her, which was pretty convincing compared to her usual lying. To be honest, the blonde never had been any good at it; someone could always tell if she lied. It was like she held a banner over her head saying ‘LOOK AT ME! I’M A LIAR!’ Though, this time coach seemed to believe it was true enough, which was good for Quinn’s sake.
Then, when Max stepped up next to her and stuck up for her, it made her smile. She’d only just met him, but he seemed like a pretty amazing guy and she could tell she had feelings for him. Though, she wasn’t sure if he felt the same, she hoped he did. It felt to Quinn like he did and that was a good sign, a very good sign. Maybe he’d be the guy that was finally worth her time this year, because every other relationship she’d been in had ended in disaster. She wished it was, because it’d be nice to finally have the pain from last year’s break-ups vanish. The blonde didn’t care if she still had to be confused about her feelings, as long as the pain was gone it would make it easier and maybe even help her decide what she wanted and were she belonged.
So, as Beiste shouted instructions at them both, though her tone wasn’t as loud as before. “Look, the school year is just starting, and I really don’t want my top wide receiver getting into trouble before the first game. You,” She muttered pointing a finger at the blonde, Quinn swallowed quickly hoping that she wouln’t freak out on her. “No more slushies Ever. So help me God, if I hear that you even thought about throwing a slushie in anyone’s face, I will go straight to Figgins to get you removed from the Cheerios. Pennetta, no more trips to the girls’ room, I don’t give a crap who tells you to come in. Now both of you get to class.” The football coach warned both her and Max, before telling them to get back to classes. Quinn had been so caught up in the moment that she hadn’t even heard the bell ring, but she didn’t seem to care. Then, Beiste told Max to put on a shirt as he left. That’s when he said “I’ll see you soon, Quinn” and it made her smile at him. “See you soon, Max.” She said goodbye to him, while smiling sweetly.
She watched as the door closed behind him, leaving her in the room with Beiste. Quinn had expected her leave along with Max, but instead she came up to the blonde. “Quinn, don’t make the same mistakes you made before. Max is a good kid and you can date him if you want to, but just remember to keep your feelings in check.” She muttered, advising Q before the coach then left herself. Quinn knew Beiste was only trying to help, but at the very moment she didn’t care about her feelings. She loved Max and that was all that mattered, no matter how much she cared about anyone else. So, the blonde sorted out her hair and make- up before leaving the girls bathroom, smiling.
